Abstract
Both fever and hypothermia are associated with high level of morbidity and mortality rates in criticaliy ill patient. Fever is an important sign of sepsis, but many cases of Jever are due to non-infectious causes. Hypothermia is increasingiy recognized as a problem in intensive care. Patients with hypothermia should be suspected of having a metabolic disorder. Also, hypothermia can represeni a ihermo regulatory response to infection. On the other hand, inducing mild hypothermia improves neurologic ouicomes after neuronal injury. İn this review article, main features of fever and hypothermia in criticaliy ill patiens will be discussed, as well as the impact of hypothermia on patient management and prognosis.
