Abstract

Spontaneous bladder rupture is a rarely seen clinical condition and usually occurs because of weakening of the bladder wall after urinary retention, urinary tract infections, increased intra-bladder pressure, and alcohol intoxication. Less frequently, perforation may encounter due to foley catheter erosion, inflammation (eosinophilic cystitis, interstitial cystitis), giant bladder stones, intra-arterial chemotherapy or atherosclerotic embolism. Cases due to neurogenic bladder are also involved in the literature. In this paper, we aimed to share our experience by presenting a paraplegic patient, who applied with clinical symptoms of sepsis, was followed-up at the intensive care unit, and was diagnosed with spontaneous urinary bladder perforation at laparotomy.
