Understanding acid-basephysiology is of utmost importance for critical care clinicians. Proper diagnosis and effective treatment of acid base disturbances are a daily routine for intensivists. The aim of this review is to present updated data about acid base balance and give information of brief history, anion gap, base excess and strong ion theory.
